Whilst it goes without saying that Carlos was the best drummer James ever worked with (followed VERY closely by Steve Gadd), Harvey Mason is on the current tour.

What does everone make of this. All the stuff I have with Harvey on is total funk! I just can't imagine the guy making some ballads swing, although I am almost certain he's able. Anyone know of any examples of him playing JT sort of stuff?

Out of the 6 UK concerts JT is doing, I'm going to 5, so come the end of the month, I should be more qualified that almost anybody to say. I'll keep you all posted...

Harvey's done a lot of jazz too, not just funk. He's done tons of pop and is a versatile player so I wouldn't worry. I miss Carlos too.

Oh man,
I'm not worried about James, he's very clever, clever enough to be surrounded by the best guys in the business... I'd just never heard Harvey play a ballad before. Funk/swing all that, just never a ballad...

Like I say, I'm going to 5 of the 6 gigs, so I'll keep you posted.

Actually Gregg was asked to do the European tour but had to turn it down due to other commitments. That's sad, Gregg's my favourite player and I'd love to have seen him play with JT I just think he'd play it like no other...

I dug Russ Kunkel's playing with JT, it was pretty slick. I recently saw a video that I'd never seen before ith JT and Russ. I don't know why he tightened his cymbals down so tightly but he was supportive and had a unique voice.

Wait, I thought it was Gadd doing the UK tour?! I flipped through the latest Drummer magazine the other day in the newsagents and they stated that Gadd was touring with him. Is the a last minute change or something?

Hey neber_dude,

No, Gadd's out on tour with Clapton and the dates would clash. Steve did the album and the last tour so Ian assumed it would be him again. We are printuing the right name in the next issue so keep your eyes open!
